Magic: The Gathering - Secret Lair (2026)

This class project asked us to redesign three Magic: The Gathering cards as if they were part of a commissioned Secret Lair release. As a longtime MTG fan, I was immediately drawn to the opportunity to reinterpret the game’s visual language through my own artistic lens.

I chose Speaker of the Heavens, Double Vision, and Gatekeeper of Malakir for their strong thematic contrast and narrative potential. Since I have always been interested in building decks around ideas of light vs. dark, I redesigned the cards through the visual language of medieval bookplates and illuminated manuscripts.

For each card, I treated the border as an extension of the card’s identity rather than a neutral frame. The illustrations, ornaments, and border details were designed to reflect the lore, color identity, and emotional tone of each card, creating a set that feels unified while allowing each piece to carry its own symbolic world.
